The victim, Eleanor Thibodeaux, was a wealthy socialite with a troubled past. She had recently returned to Zinnia after a long absence, and her death has sent shockwaves through the community. Sarah Booth soon learns that Eleanor was involved in a bitter property dispute with her estranged family, and that she had been receiving threatening letters in the months leading up to her death.
As Sarah Booth investigates, she uncovers a cast of suspicious characters, each with their own secrets to hide. There's Eleanor's estranged husband, a charming but manipulative man with a history of violence. There's her ambitious sister, who stands to inherit Eleanor's fortune. And there's a mysterious stranger who has been seen lurking around the graveyard.
As Sarah Booth digs deeper, she realizes that the Lady of Bones is more than just a murder victim. She is a symbol of the town's dark past, and her death has reopened old wounds that have never fully healed.
