With just a few simple materials and our step-by-step instructions, you'll master the art of macrame and create a beautiful piece of jewelry that you'll cherish for years to come.

Materials:

  • Macrame cord (2mm thick, 3 yards)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Clasp (optional, for a finished bracelet)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Cords

  1. Cut six strands of macrame cord, each approximately 48 inches long.
  2. Fold the strands in half and align the folded ends.
  3. Create a loop at the folded end by passing the right strands through the left.
  4. Tighten the loop to form a larks head knot.
  5. Attach the loop to a sturdy object, such as a doorknob or hook.

Step 2: Create the Foundation Row

  1. Separate the cords into three groups of two.
  2. Take the leftmost group and make a square knot with the middle group.
  3. Repeat with the rightmost group.
  4. You now have two square knots in the first row.

Step 3: Create the Zig Zag Pattern

  1. For the first zig, take the leftmost cord from the top row and cross it over the second cord from the bottom row.
  2. Take the leftmost cord from the bottom row and cross it over the second cord from the top row.
  3. Tighten both cords to form a diamond shape.
  4. Repeat this process to create the remaining zig.

Step 4: Repeat Rows

  1. Create a foundation row by repeating Step 2.
  2. Create the zig zag pattern by repeating Step 3.
  3. Continue alternating foundation rows and zig zag rows until the bracelet reaches your desired length.

Step 5: Finish the Bracelet

  1. Once the bracelet is finished, gather all the cords together.
  2. Create a larks head knot at the end to secure the cords.
  3. Trim any excess cords.
  4. If desired, attach a clasp to the ends of the cords to finish the bracelet.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality macrame cord for a durable bracelet.
  • Keep the cords taut as you work to ensure a secure knot.
  • Take your time and focus on precision for a beautifully crafted bracelet.
  • Experiment with different colors and patterns to create unique designs.

Congratulations! You've successfully created a stylish and intricate Zig Zag Macrame Bracelet. Whether you wear it yourself or gift it to a loved one, this stunning piece of jewelry is sure to be cherished.
